So I decided to try out Need For Speed Edge which is basically the Korean/Chinese version of NFS Rivals. But with a greater variety of cars and there is matchmaking for PvP which Rivals didn’t have. Also there are no Cops in this game. This video is just showing 2 online races with 2 different cars. You can see the full list of cars here:

Timeline:
0:15 – ND MX-5 Online Race
3:00 – Ford Capri RS3100 Online Race

NFS Edge is basically NFS Rivals with the upgrade/blueprint system of NFS No Limits. So basically you need to grind for parts to slowly upgrade your car and blueprints for new cars which are all randomly generated. Because of this system, you are at an disadvantage if your car does not have enough upgrades against other players.

The game wise is exactly like NFS Rivals and all the bugs with it. It is capped at 30FPS like NFS Rivals. It’s drifting is like NFS Rivals and sometimes a bit unpredictable since there is a higher focus on low speed corners which the Criterion NFS-era physics isn’t good at it. There is also that Turbo/NOS bug where if you press Turbo and NOS at the same time, nothing happens. Because you are joining servers in China, expect high latency during online play and crossing the finish line which really depends on your latency.

Overall, I don’t think I will spend too much time on this game since it’s grindy similar to NFS No Limits, the 30FPS cap and input lag which aren’t satisfying to play with. But it is a PvP focused version of NFS Rivals which Rivals didn’t really have, and it has a great variety of cars, from classic cars like 300SL and DB5 to JDM cars like Evos, Imprezas and Skylines to supercars like Ferraris and Lambos. Currently it’s free-2-play with microtransitions so if you are interested, check out the Discord link for the guides to play.
